Cell Phone AntennasAn external cell phone antenna, power booster or wireless signal amplifier / repeater for your cellular phone can help increase the wireless signal strength which will improve sound quality and reduce dropped calls. You can connect an antenna to most phones using one of our phone antenna adapters or a hands-free kit equipped with an antenna cable. We carry external antenna adapters for Nokia, Audiovox, Ericsson, Kyocera, LGIC, Motorola, Nextel, Panasonic, Qualcomm, Samsung, Sanyo, Touchpoint and other cellular phones.

You ever look and your phone signal strength indicator and see several bars only to put the phone to your head and get a dropped call? Your head can block a considerable amount of radio frequency signal. Using an external antenna will move the phone's wireless signal away from your head. This not only keeps your head from blocking the signal but also reduces exposure to these radio signals. Are there health issues from low level radio frequencies while using a cellular phone?.

Need Cellular Phone Antenna Help?

Which cell phone antenna is best for you depends on antenna technology, the type of network you're using (1900MHz digital / 800MHz analog / GSM / CDMA / TDMA), the type of phone, and the terrain in your surrounding area . When selecting a mobile antenna, there are a number of factors that significantly affect the ultimate performance of the cell antenna. Gain requirements, electrical type, ground plane availability mounting style and placement, coaxial type and loss ratings, physical size, appearance, and surrounding environment are all issues that must be addressed to ensure the maximum performance from a mobile antenna installation.

When searching for the right wireless phone antenna, there are a few things you should determine first.

What Type of Cellular Network Are You In?

Most of today's phones will work on multiple networks but only one network at a time. If 2 different wireless networks are close by, your phone will pick one according to how it's programmed by your cellular service provider. The best thing to do is call your cellular service provider or the sales person/company you purchased your phone and service from and ask them what networks are in your area. You can keep it simple by asking if you're on a 1900MHz or 800MHz range network. If you have problems in certain areas (such as your home) be sure and find out what network covers your home. You might be on a 1900MHz network at work but a 800MHz network at home (especially if your home is in a rural area).

What's causing your cellular recepton problems?

Is your reception fine outside your home or office not weak inside? Is the area around you flat, hilly, lots of trees, mountains, etc. If you're having reception problems, you're either too far away from the nearest cell tower or there is something blocking the signal from reaching your cell phone.

Where is the nearest cell tower?

If you're having problems in 1 particular area, it will help to know where your service provider's nearest cell phone tower is. Your wireless service provider may be able to answer this for you.

What Does Antenna Gain Mean?

The gain on a cell phone antenna basically rates the radiation pattern of the antenna. A "0" dBd gain (unity gain) antenna radiates more energy higher in the vertical plane to reach radio communication sites that are located in higher places. Therefore they are more useful in mountainous and metropolitan areas with tall buildings. A 3 dBd gain antenna is the compromise and a great all around solution in suburban and general settings. A 5 dBd gain and higher cellular antenna radiates more energy toward the horizon compared to the 0 and 3 dBd antennas to reach radio communication sites that are further apart and less obstructed. Therefore they are best used in deserts, plains, flatlands, and open farm areas.
